QNB, QSTP & Williams F1 to Support Road Safety “Pledge Campaign” in Qatar

Qatar National Bank (QNB), in partnership with the Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP) and Williams F1, through the Williams Technology Centre (WTC) has launched a national Road Safety pledge campaign in the State of Qatar.

The programme aims to secure pledges from up to 25,000 Qatari residents and citizens to stop speeding and to wear their seatbelts, as well as advocate safe driving amongst their friends and family. Through this public declaration of intent, QNB, QSTP and Williams F1 seek to raise awareness and encourage drivers to be accountable for their actions.

Speeding is responsible for more on-road deaths each year than any other factor and this campaign will support the Traffic Department’s ongoing efforts to curb reckless driving and encourage the active use of seatbelts which are mandated by law in Qatar.

QNB, the leading financial institution in the country, has pledged its support as part of its ongoing efforts to encourage safe driving. The Bank has partnered with the Traffic Department on numerous national public service campaigns in recent years and continues to be a leading advocate in the country. The Bank will utilise its broad network and customer base to communicate the message to the public, in addition to participating in the many activities associated with the campaign.

This pledge drive is among the first of its kind in the region and will be one that engages members of the community at all levels, including current car owners and the next generation of drivers.

It will feature members of the AT&T Williams F1 team who have pledged to make personal appearances at schools and universities as part of a grassroots education programme. The team’s race cars will also be displayed around Doha in different locations including shopping malls.

QSTP will also contribute to promoting domestic road safety through the use of simulators developed at the Williams Technology Centre which can be used for driver tuition, education and rehabilitation in a controlled environment.

The initiative in Qatar will run alongside Williams’ various road safety campaigns, such as Brake in the UK and DEKRA in Germany. The Williams responsibility program focuses on three areas that are closely related to its core activities of engineering and racing, namely energy efficiency, education and road safety. More about these programmes can be found on the Williams responsibility website, Spark, at www.attwilliams.com/spark

The campaign sets forth the goal of creating a safe road-faring community and is an initiative that people should remember for a long time. QNB, QSTP and Williams F1 have said that they are committed to educating the public about safe driving and the importance of respecting traffic regulations to reinforcing the common responsibility we share as a nation and as individuals.

To pledge their commitment, people all over the country are encouraged to visit QNB’s website www.qnb.com.qaor search for “QNB Pledge” on facebook.
