Doha, 12 November 2015– QNB, ‘The Leading Financial Institution in the Middle East and North Africa’, signed a contract with the Interior Ministry’s National Traffic Safety Committee by which the Group became a platinum sponsor of the 24th World ITMA (International Traffic Medicine Association) Congress being held in Doha from November 16 – 18, 2015.

The congress will be held at the Sheraton Doha Resort & Convention Hotel under the patronage of His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior with the participation of speakers and experts from over 100 countries. The congress aims to reduce the number of traffic accidents and mortality rates on the global level.

The contract was signed on behalf of QNB by Mr. Yousef Darwish, GM – Group Communication, and on behalf of the National Traffic Safety Committee by Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah al-Maliki, head of the congress’ organizing committee and Secretary of the National Traffic Safety Committee.

On his part, Brig. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Maliki, Secretary of the National Traffic Safety Committee, expressed his gratitude to QNB Group, which is always keen on supporting the government’s efforts to serve citizens and residents. Al-Maliki also praised QNB Group’s efforts and its faith in the role of Corporate Social Responsibility in supporting citizens and residents, especially since the Group is one of the largest national institutions, and that it has incorporated an exceptional CSR strategy that has placed it at the forefront of the institutions that realize their responsibilities and honor their duties toward the Qatari society in which it operates.

On his side, Mr. Yousef Darwish, QNB’s GM - Group Communications, said: “Traffic accidents are a global problem that requires united efforts to reduce its prevalence and the great increases in the numbers of its victims. This is especially important given that the greatest majority of traffic accident victims are of a young age, which causes a waste of the most valuable resource that societies depend upon in development, which is the invaluable human element.”

He added: “This conference is very important in spreading awareness and enhancing traffic safety in society as a whole, especially among youth, since it is the most vulnerable group in this area. At QNB Group, we have a unique CSR strategy that focuses on six main areas, including education and youth. It is certain that our sponsorship of this prominent event will contribute to facilitating the work of the organizers, speakers, and participants in this important congress and supporting its outputs, which will yield great future benefits. It is thus not strange that QNB Group is one of the main supporters of investment in the most valuable resources, as stressed by the Qatar 2030 national vision.”

The World ITMA Congress is held in the Arab World for the first time, and is hosted in its 24th iteration in Doha. This year’s event will focus on the international progress in traffic safety and accident prevention and treatment in recent years. The congress will witness the participation of international traffic medicine experts, who will exchange their views of the newest advanced traffic medicine concepts, the means of promoting traffic safety awareness, first aid and medical treatments required to reduce international traffic accident mortality and disability rates, and the raising of traffic health and safety levels.

QNB’s sponsorship of this important event comes as part of its continuous CSR initiatives and its keenness on supporting the society in which it operates, seeing as traffic safety is one of the key issues to promote the welfare of citizens and expatriates in line with the country’s guidelines and its care for its people.

QNB Group’s presence through its subsidiaries and associate companies extends to more than 27 countries across three continents providing a comprehensive range of advanced products and services.
